T-Split Tutorial

Introduction

This tutorial shows an example of a 2-D simulation using Azore CFD. The geometry is a simple branching duct with a right angle T-split. The user imports the mesh into Azore, runs the simulation, and then post-processes and analyzes the results.

What You'll Need

Start Your Free Trial of Azore CFD Advanced

Several demonstration CFD models are included in the Azore installation files. The files needed for this tutorial are located in the directory AzoreCFD-Documents-->Azore-Tutorials-->2D-Tsplit-Full. Please note this tutorial requires participants to have a license or free trial of Azore Advanced or Premier.

Step 1: Import Mesh

Launch Azore and navigate to File→Import. Navigate to Azore-Tutorials\2D-Tsplit-Full and select the tsplit-adapt.cas file.

Step 2: Prepare Simulation Monitors

Navigate to Database→Solution Monitors→Surface. Set the Number of Surface Monitors to 2. Rename the first monitor “Top,” and set the surface for by clicking the Surfaces button, selecting top, and then OK. Choose Mass Flow as the field to monitor by selecting it from the dropdown menu. Set the surface for second monitor to surface side by clicking the Surfaces button, selecting side and OK, choosing Mass Flow, and renaming the monitor “Side.”

Step 3: Run and Monitor the Simulation

Select File→Save Database as to save the database. Start the simulation by selecting File→Start Run. Specify the number of iterations as 500. Check the box to connect to the solver to monitor progress. After the run starts, the solution progress can be monitored by navigating to Display→Monitors→Residuals and Display→Monitors→Show All Monitors. To stop the simulation before the 500 iterations are completed, select File→Stop Run and choose Yes to load the solution results.

Step 4: Analyze Results

Select the Contours tab, then scroll down to select (highlight) the Volume data. Press the Generate button to generate and display items selected in the feature tree. To change the scaling on the color bar, adjust the Range by changing the values, moving the sliders, or clicking the box next to Rounded.

Step 5: Extract Numerical Data

Navigate to Reporting→Surface Data and select the surface side. Select Standard Statistics in the dropdown menu and press Report. The data will be displayed in the Log Messages area at the bottom of the Azore screen.
